Hands weaving a basket from natural reed
How They're Made

Reed, water, hands, time.

There is no machine in this shop. Reed is soaked until it bends without cracking, then woven row by row around a hand-set base. A single market basket takes most of a day.

  • 1
Soak and prep. Raw reed is soaked so it can be shaped without snapping.
  • 2
Weave the base. Every basket starts from a flat, hand-set bottom for stability.
  • 3
Build and finish. Walls go up row by row, then the rim is lashed and the handle set.
